A boy broke through security, clambered on to the stage and pulled the sleeve of a Swiss guard on the podium metres from the pontiff while he was speaking in the Vatican audience hall. Leave him, leave him to play here, thepopesaid as the child, who he said was speechimpaired, rolled around in front of him on the carpet.
