THE CRAMPS TEAR IT UP On this date in 1980, THE CRAMPS played Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, filmed for the British punk, new wave, and postpunk movie URGH A MUSIC WAR released in 1982, (August 15th, 1980). Over two nights at the Civic, nine bands played. Fridays lineup was Englands Chelsea, San Franciscos Dead Kennedys, hometown heroes X, and The Cramps. Night two comprised Clevelands Dead Boys and Pere Ubu, Englands The Members and Magazine, and Wall of Voodoo. From The Cramps 12track set only one song was featured in the movie, TEAR IT UP. But it was a great one, providing further visual evidence of what incredible live performers this band were. Lux is typically shirtless and wearing trademark skintight leather pants but outdoing its most famous wearer Jim Morrison by only covering half his a ss.
