New Zealand The Star May 02, 2013 Sharing the love with community cleanup By DAN HUTCHINSON MORE than 50 people took to the streets of Dunedin on Sunday, using tidiness to help lift community spirits. World Mission Society Church of God pastor James Kim said the cleanup by church members and other volunteers was designed to show they cared. Litter dropped in streets and fallen leaves could accumulate in stormwater drains, causing blockages and flooding of streets and properties when it rained, he said. Filth around bars and clubs was an ongoing problem in the city centre, causing many people to be depressed and unhappy, Mr Kim said. The group was supported by the Dunedin City Council and cleaned up the Octagon, George St and part of the University precinct.
