Spanish Royal Family
The Kingdom of Spain has been ruled by the Bourbon dynasty since the death of the Spanish line of the Hapsburgs which resulted in the War of Spanish Succession. From 1931 to 1939 Spain was a Marxist republic following the overthrow of King Alfonso XIII. At his death the throne passed to his son, nominally King Juan III, who lived in exile and never reigned. His son, Juan Carlos, was designated as heir by Generalissimo Francisco Franco and upon his death the monarchy was fully restored and Juan Carlos became King of Spain.
