Whooping Cough ( Day 27)
Child (age 4) awoke from an afternoon nap due to a paroxysmal coughing attack. The cough began mild in intensity on June 13, 2013. She did not suffer a fever or other symptoms in the first two weeks. Initial differential diagnosis: acute bronchitis. Cough progressed to include a whooping sound during week 3, with associated vomiting from cough and abdominal spasm. Diagnosis: Whooping Cough, Pertussis. During week 23 she awoke every 12 hours during the night from the cough. On July 34, she suffered mild fever. During week 4, she only awoke approximately 2 times during the night. Improving.
