Maarten Hogenhuis saxophones, Jesse van Ruller guitar These Dutch jazz heroes hardly need any introduction: guitarist Jesse van Ruller and Maarten Hogenhuis form a versatile duo. Even though their musicianship is rooted in jazz tradition, their influences reach beyond Miles, Coltrane or Parker. Theyre inspired by singular bands and songwriters such as Sufjan Stevens, Andrew Bird, Grizzly Bear and Blake Mills. They seek dialogue in rhythm and melody, and they steer away from the traditional soloist and accompanist roles. Their new album contains compositions by both of them.
