91. Paradiso, canto XXIV O sodalizio eletto a la gran cena
Beatrice prega gli apostoli di concedere a Dante Alighieri un po della loro sapienza: l anima più splendente, quella di San Pietro, esce dal cerchio e ruota tre volte attorno a Beatrice. Arrestatosi, dichiara che l amore della donna lo ha spinto ad uscire dal cerchio e la beata gli chiede di mettere alla prova la fede di Dante. Al poeta, San Pietro chiede di dare una definizione della fede: questi risponde fornendo la definizione di San Paolo e spiegando perché parli di sostanza e dimostrazione e il dialogo fra i due prosegue su Vecchio e Nuovo Testamento e sulla loro ispirazione. Infine, Dante professa la sua fede e dichiara da dove questa provenga e San Pietro, approvando le sue parole, lo benedice.
