While I would rotate between which dishes I would order, I would always order my meals extra spicy. Soon, the lady who owned the restaurant wouldn t need me to tell her I wanted it spicy, but she would just yell to her chef, if it s not spicy, he s not eating So for instance I would order shrimp with holy basil (pad kra pao goong), and she would yell out, pad kra pao goong, if it s not spicy, he s not eating It was one of my first Thai food memories, and something I ll never forget.
