Totalitarian Jedi Mind Tricks What does it mean to be politically free In this episode of the symposium, we discuss the 3 most prominent traditions of understanding political liberty: the negative, the positive, and the recently revived, republican tradition. Negative liberty is understood in terms of noninterference. Positive liberty is understood as autonomy. Republican liberty is understood as nondomination. We discuss the pros and cons of each conception and the potential threats of its widespread adoption. We end by discussing whether it is possible to combine elements of all three of them.
