Shetland Up Helly Aa Festivals

Shetland has 12 annual winter festivals where our communities celebrate the return of lighter days, our Norse heritage and the end of the Yule season. The largest and most wellknown is Lerwick Up Helly Aa, held on the last Tuesday of January. But the first annual festival happens in just a few days, Scalloway Fire Festival on Friday 10 January 2020, and from there festivals run throughout our islands and local communities until mid March.
