Ward Guitar and Electronic Services 9 September 2020 Mechanical Television Nipkow disc and an Austin Mini car heater motor I have recently resurrected the mechanical television I built a few years back. Its a tribute to the genius of John Logie Baird the Father of Television. In 1927 he did some pioneering work establishing the dawn of television broadcast. Using a mechanical camera and receiver he managed to send the first moving electronic pictures. The system was based on the Nipkow disc. I had the benefit of modern electronics and test equipment at my disposal, oh yes and a laser cutter. . I also knew it should work and was well documented. None of this made it any easier and I spent several weeks working sometimes day and night to make the project run. There is very informative page on the BBC website about J. L.
