M. Tsvetaeva Today was thawing 1914, translation by M. Glasko
Marina Tsvetaeva October 24, 1914 Today was thawing and today, I by the window stood alone My look was sober, free of pain, And chest at last in peaceful tone. I didnt know how come and then, But might be tired precious Soul And even my rebellious pen I did not wish to touch at all. I stood so long in foggy spell, So far from Goodness and from Hell. My finger was so softly drumming, And glass vibrate, like crystal bell. I was not best, not worst by Soul, As random stranger, whom I met, As paddle, colored like a pearl, There splashed all splendid firmament. As little bird, that flew by near, As simply running single dog. And even poorest womansinger Dont force my tears to come at all. The art of pretty sweet oblivion My Soul has definitely learned, And some tremendous inner feeling Today was thawing in my Soul. translation by Marina Glasko, 2023 , tsvetaeva, marinatsvetaeva, 1914, poem, poetry, bestpoems, bestpoems, transformation, california, russianpoetry, feelings
