The nutrition labels on the foods you re eating may be doing more than just informing youthey could be persuading your mind and body. Alia Crum, a psychologist at Columbia University, spent years studying the placebo effect, and applied it to an experiment with healthy foods. She held an experiment in which she poured identical milkshakes into two differently labeled cups. One cup read indulgent while the other said it was a healthy drink. In the indulgent drink, the levels of ghrelin in the body indicted the body thought it had drunk about three times the amount of milkshake it actually had consumed.
