Train Derailment Mercer, MO July 2019
This video is about the July 25th, 2019 derailment of a Union Pacific train. Union Pacific officials say no one was injured when 70 train cars derailed in northcentral Missouri. Spokeswoman Kristen South says the train derailed Thursday near Mercer, about 125 miles northeast of Kansas City near the Iowa border. South says the train was not carrying hazardous materials. It is believed that the train was carrying a type of sand that is used in the oil industry. The train was traveling to Ft. Worth, Texas, from Butler, Wisconsin. The cause of the derailment is under investigation. The portion of track had been under repair for the weeks leading up to the accident. It is a highly elevated track that sets on a significant build up of base rock and fill. Video Photos By Jerry Girdner Music by Joakim Karud
