Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter born in July of 1862. He was an eclectic character. He wore a long robe and sandals. He had a beard with a baritone voice and a very direct personality. He is most recognized for his Golden Phase. During this period, he created a variety of golden paintings and even ornamented them with gold leaf. They often displayed beautiful mosaics and were mostly portraits of women. Klimt not only loved painting women, he also loved women. Despite his relationship with Emilie, he is known to have had a string of love affairs with his models. Klimt kept these relationships hidden but undoubtedly had an active private life. He fathered at least 6 children from three different relationships, though he was never married. His most popular paintings include Portrait of Adele BlochBauer I and The Kiss.
