A severe thunderstorm that swept across Canberra late on Monday afternoon has left thousands without power and caused damage to homes and cars. The northern areas of Belconnen and Gungahlin were the worst hit by the storm, which lashed the city about 5:00pm. Large hailstones and strong winds caused damage to homes and toppled trees, with reports of cars crushed in multiple locations.
