The Western Brothers (1932)
Titles read: Now we meet the well known Broadcasters Variety Artists, THE WESTERN BROTHERS, (Kenneth Pathe Studio, London. The Western Brothers, splendid toffs in evening dress, sing In The Parlour When The Company s Gone a song all about things that happen at home, you know, mother and dad and things like that. The song is introduced with a joke about how their mum and dad do not get on very well. The other day their kitchen boiler burst and they went out together for the first time The song tells of the state of the house and family after they have had all their friends and relations round for a party. In the middle of the song, a joke is told about a navvy trying to work out how many thousandths of an inch there are in an inch. I wouldn t class this as a typical Western Brothers song and delivery it isn t as louche and drawling, worldweary toffs as most of their songs. A bit more rowdy and down to earth interesting change.
