The antipoverty charity, Auckland City Mission, said up to 400 people may have received the sweets as part of a food parcel. The sweets were anonymously donated by a member of the public in a sealed retail package. At least three people, including a child, sought medical attention afterward, though none are currently in the hospital. We did not know that the lollies contained methamphetamine when they were distributed, a spokesperson for the charity told the BBC.
