Clonalis House Ancestral Home of the OConor Irish Royal Dynasty
Niall and I just returned from a very enjoyable stay at the historic Clonalis House. The house was built in 1878, but generations of the O Conor family have lived on this land for centuries. It was a privilege to receive a fascinating history tour of the house and to learn about the noble O Conor Royal dynasty. This family produced two High Kings of Ireland and are directly descended from the last High King of Ireland, Rory O Conor. The inauguration stone of the O Conor kings is in front of the house. We stayed in the Gold Room which has elegant decor, a four poster bed and a good size bathroom. Breakfast was delicious. House and grounds in great conditions. Pyers took us around the house, where each corner has its own history. The house has a small chapel and an archive with historic papers, some of them are ancient manuscripts. There are 7 000 books in the house the biggest privately owned book collection. Thanks a million to Pyers, Margarite, Carol Anne and Richard for their warm hospit
