Irati, The Magic Forest
The Selva of Irati is the second largest beechfir forest in Europe after the Black Forest (Germany). Surrounded by the Pyrenees, it covers an extensive area of 17, 195 hectares just north of the Aezkoa and Salazar valleys (Navarre) and south of the Cize (Lower Navarre) and Soule valleys (Zuberoa). Based on herd, wood, and hunting, it has always been a magical place for the Basques, who tell stories about mythological beings living in the depths of the forest. The frequent fog banks and the Mount Orhi create a unique atmosphere of solitude. One that has always been very special to me as well. Music by Peter Nanasi (The North Awakens). 2019, Iñaki Tejerina
