It was originally conceived by Hironobu Sakaguchi soon after he had moved to Hawaii and he turned to Hiromichi Tanaka (who went on to work on Final Fantasy XIV) and Kenichi Ishii to help bring his vision to life. They had all worked on Final Fantasy I, II and III together and they believed that Final Fantasy XI could act as the ultimate Final Fantasy experience. And to make this a reality they called upon classic elements like Jobs, Chocobos, Moogles and they centered everything around a compelling narrative that would be based in the expansive realm of Vana diel.
