John Nettles, (born 11 October 1943) is a British actor and writer. He is best known for playing the lead role Chief Inspector Barnaby in the longrunning television series Midsomer Murders, a British television detective drama that has aired on ITV since 1997. The show is based on Caroline Graham s Chief Inspector Barnaby book series. A major success in viewership since its first episode, the series has been marketed worldwide in numerous countries.
