Tranter 1858 model 4 double action revolver
William Tranter was an important supplier of English revolver frames during the period 18531866. He patented a number of improvements that allowed a revolver to be fired either by pulling the trigger, which cocked the gun, rotated the cylinder and then fired it in one continuous action. This was useful when fighting at very close range, but due to the strong main spring, resulted in a heavy trigger pull. . However, for accurate shooting at long ranges, Tranter s revolver could be cocked manually by thumb
