Anningella Queen of Cups

Mary Anning was a fossil hunter in the 1800 s, referred to in the classic English tonguetwister she sells sea shells on the sea shore because she used to sell her finds on a makeshift stall on the beach. She was barely acknowledged for her huge contribution to paleontology due to a combination of her gender and social class, and nearly all her finds were passed off as someone else s discovery. But Mary Anning did eventually have something named after her a mollusc genus, known as Anningella. Marta and Joao (the artist duo Von Calhau) were on the same residency, and I felt a strong connection to Marta from very early on and her middle name is Angela. Mine is Ann.
