Cold dead hands : Gun control in Georgia, Behind The Story
In a presidential election where one candidacy was based on being Donald Trump and the other was defined by the opposite, there were precious few policies announced by either side. One campaign pledge that Joe Biden did make was to introduce federal gun laws to restrict the sale of, among other things, highcapacity magazines and weapons deemed to fall into the contentious category of assault rifles. As president I promise you, I will get these weapons of war off the street, Mr Biden said at a campaign event in Las Vegas in February. However, his plan to tighten restrictions does not sit well with traditionally gunloving citizens in states such as Georgia. Mr Biden carried Georgia by 11, 779 votes in November, but its residents views still have a particular importance because the presidentelects hopes of controlling Congress hinge on the runoff elections today for the states two Senate seats.
