Beautiful baby bat enjoys some juice
To use this video in a commercial player or in broadcasts, please email We know summer is fast approaching when Little Red flyingfoxes start pouring into town. Drawn by our warm weather and abundant flowering, Reds are the smallest and most nomadic of our larger flyingfox species. Predominately pollen and nectar feeders and around half the size of Blacks, Greyheaded and Spectacled flyingfoxes, Reds follow native flowering events and they do sometimes arrive in their tens of thousands which is not well tolerated in some communities. Little Reds are mostly a rusty brown colour but they do come in different hues and colour combinations such as the battie featured on today s video who has a stunning silver head and velvety dark chocolate body. With very welcome rain expected in the coming days which will unfortunately wash the pollen and nectar out of the flowers, we will wait until the rain has passed before hard releasing our over wintering Reds in care.
