Of all the emotions portrayed in our album The Shadow Of Your Guard Receding, II Twenty Two takes on the emotion of fear. The music slowly and steadily works towards and aims towards its menacing grand finale by taking cues from contemporary postrock, a genre well suited to showcasing grand, orchestral, dramatic feelings. The video takes a bit of a detour when it comes to portraying the songs emotion: instead of showing emotion in its pure, direct form, it depicts two men rigid with fear. It works with rigid fear and with the absence of fear as a consequence of a society pressuring its individuals to show strength by simply suppressing the sight of fear. It raises the question as to how much of todays construction of (toxic) masculinity has to do with this the video goes even further by challenging the role of different concepts of masculinity.
