Skidding 13, 000tonnes of aircraft carrier into place
On June 30 teams from across the Aircraft Carrier Alliance together with specialist contractors used hydraulic jacks and rams to gently skid a 13, 000 tonne section of HMS Queen Elizabeth 90 metres along the dry dock at Babcock s facility in Rosyth. The next job is to integrate the two sections which, when complete, will represent approximately 60 per cent of the hull for the first ship.
