Spain: Taxi drivers escalate strike over ride sharing apps

Taxi drivers blockaded one of Madrid s best known squares Plaza del Sol as their openended strike against ridesharing apps entered its eighth day on Monday. Cabbies have been staging a number of protests across the city, bringing traffic to a standstill. Hundreds of taxi drivers from other parts of Spain have been pouring into Madrid to support their colleagues. They are demanding the municipal government regulate VTC vehicle for hire licenses, which companies like Uber and Cabify use to operate.
