Aleksandr Ilyinsky: Berceuse, No. 7
Phillip Sear plays the wellknown berceuse, or cradle song from Ilyinsky s 1896 Noure and Anitra Suite by the Russian composer Aleksandr Ilyinsky (18591920). Ilyinsky seems to be remembered today for just this one piece, which most young pianists learn. After a military education, he studed music in Berlin, and subsequently St. Petersburg, and embarked on a career as a teacher and composer, his biggest work being his 1911 4act opera The Fountain of Bakhchisaray from which an extract, Orgy of the Spirits has been used in several film scores.
