UNDERPAINTING 1, Portrait of a young girl after Rubens, grisaille, portrait painting

1 of 4 Timelapse video showing the first pass on the grisaille underpainting for this portrait. The 1st pass of the underpainting was filmed in 3 films taking roughly 2 hours 20 minutes and this is the 1st instalment. The second is on youtube in real time. This portrait was painted in oil on primed board using Raw Umber and Titanium White. Rubens may have used Raw Umber or just black for his grisaille but for clarity I stick with Raw Umber. In the 2nd pass I use some Ivory black for the background, shadows in her hair, and clothes. All my other real time demonstrations, with full commentaries, are on my patreon page:
