Sisters meet for first time as Chilean children illegally adopted reunited with biological families
There were emotional reunions and long embraces at the airport in Chile s capital on Sunday as families met facetoface with some of the adults who were illegally put up for adoption as children. Romina Cortés hugged her sister, Maria, whose existence she learned of just a month ago. That s because Cortés sister, María Hastings, is one of tens of thousands of Chilean children who were trafficked or illegally put up for adoption during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (19731990). I never thought this moment would happen. I never thought that I would come to Chile. But after learning how my adoption was being illegal and everything that happened, I decided I have, I want to find out and my family is right there, said María Hastings of Tampa, Florida.
