Tuidi (取手) and Kakushite ( 隠し手) of Okinawan Karate
Hidden Techniques (kakushite 隠し手) are hidden in two ways. The first way is that they are hidden within the kata and are difficult to perceive without explanation. The other way they are hidden is that there is often much more going on in a tuite technique than is visible on the surface. What looks like a simple joint lock usually contains multiple strikes which are difficult to see when the technique is done quickly. Thus they are hidden because they need to be explained by a teacher to understand their full implications.
