Atkinson Grimshaw: Painter of Moonlight
A short film looking at the private life and artwork of Leedsborn John Atkinson Grimshaw, who was renowned for his evocative paintings of Victorian city streets illuminated by moonlight. Interviews with Grimshaw s greatgranddaughter April Marsden, biographer Alex Robertson, curator Jane Sellars and contemporary photographer Liza Dracup unpick the story of the man, exploring his tragic family life as well as what inspired him as an artist. The film has been made on the occasion of Atkinson Grimshaw: Painter of Moonlight at Mercer Art Gallery in Harrogate, 16 April 4 September 2011, which is part of Art in Yorkshire supported by Tate.
