That Other Guy, Track 8 of Fay, Malingo
This track was hard to write, and I almost didnt include it in the album because it was a little too emotionally heavy. However, it is an important part of her and my story. In this song, I reflect on my own feelings as my mom was living in a memory care unit sadness, anger, confusion, and mostly regret. The title comes from a time when she referred to me as that other guy because she had forgotten my name. That moment in 2016 was a wakeup call I knew I would need to process and grieve the changes she was going through, and it was what spurred me to start writing songs as a coping mechanism.
