PUMZI (2010) directed by Wanuri Kahiu
Kenyas first sciencefiction film takes a dazzling trip into a postapocalyptic world in which water has almost run out. In an arid future Africa, a museum curator manages to germinate a seed and decides to break free from her contained community to try and restore plantlife to the dead land. Writerdirected Wanuri Kahiu worked with mentors such as South Africas Simon Hansen (an associate of District 9s Neil Blomkamp) as part of a scheme called Africa First short film program, financed by Focus Features, the Goethe Institut and the Changamoto arts fund.
