How To Make A Live Edge Serving Board With Railroad Spikes
, woodworker, Charcuterie, Rawcutsandshots Recently made a Serving board with Railroad spikes and a walnut live edge for a buddy of mine. Wanted to share a quick look at the process. Hope you enjoy. I started by drawing my design on the wood. Then cut it using my band saw. It began to bind a little so I had to add a couple of wedges. Once cut, I smoothed out the rough wood with my craftsman bench sander. It had a couple of cracks so the night before I added a little epoxy to seal those up. Then I smoothed it out further with my orbital sander and measured out where to add the spikes. To prepare the spikes, I used my angle grinder to take the rust off. Afterwards I added a layer of epoxy on them to prevent future rusting. The next day I drilled in the holes for the hardware. After drilling in the the holes for the spikes, I was able to add the teenuts to the bottom with my mallet.
