Mrs. Mc Grath Sketch WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS
Mrs. McGrath (also known as My Son Ted, My Son John ) is an Irish folk song set during the Peninsular War of the early 19th century. It tells the story of the woman whose son enters the British Army and returns 7 years later having lost his legs to a cannonball while fighting against Napoleon. The general theme of the song is an opposition to war, to its cruelty. Heres one of the modern versions recorded by Fiddlers Green band. Only having experienced the negative, pain, fear and unjustified losses of war it is possible to realize up to the end that the world is cruel.
