Gas hydrate pingos in 3 D
Outline Pingolike features (or pingos, or PLFs) are intriguing seafloor mounds, documented both onshore and offshore. These formations, varying in size and height, have diverse formation mechanisms (including pressure build up and permafrost and, or gas hydrate doming). Here we show group of beautiful pingos on the 380 m deep seafloor South of Svalbard Archipelago. They are up to 500 m wide and 30 m high, and comprise gas hydrates, confirmed by shallow sediment coring. Gas hydrates are icelike compounds
