German St. Hubertus Glas binoculars restoration very damaged leather grip
In this video I am restoring an old pair of binoculars. I found these, in fact opera glasses or also known as lorgnettes, on EbayKleinanzeigen, a trade market for used goods for just 13. In this renovation video the priority had the dissembling, polishing of the brass and the stitching of the leather. You will see a perfectly formed patina which has had been hidden under the old and defect leather grip. What I did The dissembling is the first step as always while a restauration of old hidden and found goods. I started with unscrewing all the parts of the binoculars. The old leather grip was damaged and already ripped apart, so I just took it off. With the scalpel I remove the patina by scrubbing it off the opera glasses. The inside of the binoculars was painted black, as I want to renew the whole opera glasses, I remove the old paint with a disk brush.
