Eimi Wakui Dvořák: Songs My Mother Taught Me (arr. Kreisler)
Songs My Mother Taught Me is the fourth of the seven Gypsy Melodies (Op. 55) by Antonín Dvořák (18411904). The lyrics were composed from a Czech poem written by the Czech lyricist Adolf Heyduk, which Dvořák himself translated into German. Kreisler (18751962) arranged it for violin, and this is the piece performed here. The lyrics of this piece are about a song passed down from my mother in the past, which I, now a mother, sing to my children, and how my mother used to cry when she sang it to me, and how I cry now, just like her, when I sing it. The violin melody is written in 2, 4 time and the piano accompaniment in 6, 8 time, which is difficult in the score, but the melody is simple, very beautiful and heartfelt. The piano ornamentation creates a very pleasant tone in the warm, nostalgic tune. On Mother s Day, I would like everyone to listen to this piece thinking about the scene and your mother. , classicalmusic, violin, dvořák, v
