Rising Arc in Falling Chain
There is a limit on this arc radius because there is a limit to the velocity which the chain can reach. This limit is from the inertia of the chain at rest in the beaker. As the speed of the chain increases the impulse required to accelerate the resting chain increases, creating a tension in the chain which is pulling the chain back into the cup, when this force is equal to gravity the chain will stop accelerating.
