USS Ticonderoga CVA 14 conducting bombing raids over North Viet Nam
In December 1965 the USS Ticonderoga CVA14, USS Enterprise CVAN65 and the USS Kitty Hawk CVA63 headed north for the Gulf of Tonkin a few miles off the Coast of North VietNam. After transferring personnel from the USS Preston DD795 and fueling up from the USS Neches AO57. Our mission was to embark on bombing raids over Hanoi with the three Carriers and the B52 Bombers out of Guam. This was the first time that the Navy and Air Force conducted four waves of bombing during a Carriers were USS Ranger CVA61 and Hancock CVA19.
