Hiking the Big Butt Trail

Yes, it s really called The Big Butt Trail. This trail takes you over peaks well in excess of a mile in elevation. From the ridge you can look across at the other side of the Jshaped range known as the Black Mountains, the highest range in the eastern USA. Generally I find solitude here as it doesn t seem to be a particularly popular trail. Most people just hike part of it from the Blue Ridge Parkway up to Point Misery, a 5700foot summit about a mile or so into the hike.
