Carrying Wounded (1914 1918)
Soldiers at the Front but not during battle there has obviously been fighting here but not while this was filmed; this is a little way back from the front line. This footage gives a very vivid impression of life on the Western Front. French soldiers carry wounded man on stretcher through a corridor walled by bales of hay. Other men also walk past; including a couple who have lesser wounds. Some soldiers pass; walking away with rifles; bedrolls; many bags strapped on; cooking pot; etc. Then several men walk past carrying big jugs. Wide shot giving a good view of life near the front: German prisoners carry stretcher across a primitive bridge; 2 French soldiers; 1 of them wounded in arm; follow; in background several French soldiers stand in front of some roughlooking structures; dugouts; etc. ; all around are bare and shattered trees. MS soldier looking out of hole in some blown apart concrete structure with steel webbing sticking out. Another view of part of this thing in foreground, in background
