Beauty Culture (1953)
Knightsbridge, London. Great shots of pupils at the Academy of Beauty Culture massaging models of female faces as they learn how to give a facial under the instruction of a tutor. Another instructress demonstrates on a student from Siam. In another training session the pupils watch as a woman wearing a cap and pads over her eyes has steam and ultraviolet rays directed at her face to force oxygen into her skin. In the next session shows a woman lying on her front, having her shoulders massaged. The masseuse and students all put on their goggles and a ray lamp is directed towards the woman s back. A frightening treatment shows a woman having a piece of fabric placed over her face, leaving a gap for her nose and mouth. The trainer picks up a large, thick mask ( which contains radioactive elements ) with cables leading from it and puts it over the woman s face, then winds a bandage over it The mask is attached to electrical apparatus which is now switched on. The trainer turns different dials rela
