1996 Indy 200 at Walt Disney World
As INDYCAR celebrates Women s History Month in March, it is our great pleasure to revisit some of the great moments of the sport. This week s Classic Rewind takes to Walt Disney World Speedway and the 1996 Indy 200, the first race of the newlyminted Indy Racing League. In a race full of firsts, there were several bests sprinkled in. In a partnership between Dick Simon Racing and Team Scandia, Lyn St. James started in the inaugural race for the IRL, ripping off a qualification lap of MPH, starting her in Row 6. In front of a crowd estimated over 50, 000 fans, she scored the best finish of her career. For this week s Classic Rewind, we go back to that historic race weekend.
