Heavy clouds around the volcano s summit have impaired visibility, hiding ash discharges into the atmosphere. Mount Etna, Europes most active volcano, has started erupting, spewing ash on Catania, eastern Sicilys largest city, and forcing a suspension of flights at that citys airport. The Popocatépetl volcano, between Mexico City and the Mexican town of Puebla, has registered an increase in its activity this Sunday and an expulsion of a large amount of ash, which has led the authorities to decree the third phase of the yellow alert level
