Self shaping oil droplets

Researchers, led by Dr Stoyan Smoukov, have identified a novel mechanism that drives the development of shape in artificial materials. The almost lifelike behaviour of oil droplets in soapy water is attributed to the formation of particular phases on the internal surfaces of the droplets, that cause them to undergo remarkable shape transitions.
