Kim Carnes Bette Davis Eyes 1981 Disco Purrfection Version
Kim Carnes was on the upswing in the early 80 s beginning with her cover of Smokey Robinson s More Love with a distinctive synthesizer sound that defined the production, her warm and raspy voice providing an effective counterpoint to the smooth and lush electronic sounds that enveloped the songs. Donna Weiss and 60 s recording star Jackie DeShannon, (Put A Little Love in Your Heart), wrote a honky tonk song tribute to Bette Davis which Jackie recorded for her New Arrangement LP of 1975. They sent it to Carnes producer at the time, George Tobin (who would go on to produce Tiffany). Kim was not interested in the song at the time and after she changed producers to Val Garay, Weiss sent her the song again. Bill Cuomo, the synthesizer player, came up with the new chords that cemented the commercial appeal of the song which was quickly completed and put on her Mistaken Identity LP. The appeal was astounding It spent 9 weeks at, 1, and dropped to, 2 for one week
